Address: 95-113 Great Howard St, Liverpool L3 7AT, United Kingdom
One of the oldest working names in Liverpool floristry, and the one businesses reach for first. Fishlocks has been trading in the city for over 130 years, family-run throughout, and it is built for the order that has an office, a hotel lobby, a hospital ward or a river crossing at the other end of it.
What to come here for
Corporate flowers are the backbone: regular arrangements on contract for offices and hotels, centrepieces and table work for events, seasonal displays. That is the part a neighbourhood shop rarely carries, and it explains why so much of the shop’s day is scheduled rather than walk-in.
The private side is the familiar list — hand-tied bouquets, hat box arrangements and bespoke designs for birthdays, anniversaries, new babies, thank-yous and sympathy. Weddings are taken on properly, from bridal bouquets and buttonholes to altar and venue displays, which is a different conversation from a gift order and is treated as one.
Funeral tributes are a standing part of the work as well: wreaths, sprays, crosses and casket work, made to the family’s brief.
Delivery and urgency
The working deadline is 1pm: order before it and the flowers go out the same day, order after it and they move to the next working day. Sunday delivery exists but has to be set up in advance — the Saturday order has to be in by 1pm for a Sunday drop, which is worth knowing before a Monday date turns into a Sunday one.
Coverage is the unusual bit. Beyond the Liverpool postcodes the van crosses to the Wirral, so a bouquet can go to Birkenhead or the Heswall side without switching florist. The shop also names the destinations people actually struggle with: the city centre retail district, Anfield, Aintree Hospital and John Lennon Airport — the addresses that need a driver who knows where to hand a bouquet over.
Outside that map, orders go through a relay network of member shops across the UK and Ireland, so somebody else makes them. If the address is genuinely unreachable the shop says it will tell you promptly rather than let the day pass. Click and collect is offered too, with a morning or afternoon slot.
Highlights
- Over 130 years, still family-run. A rare thing in a trade where shops change hands every few years.
- Built for corporate accounts. Contract flowers for offices and hotels, not just a one-off bouquet.
- Both sides of the Mersey. Liverpool postcodes plus the Wirral, without handing the order to anyone else.
- Awkward addresses covered. Hospital, airport and city-centre deliveries are routine here.
- Its own car park. Genuinely useful for collecting a large arrangement, and rare this close to the centre.
- Gifts to send alongside. Belgian chocolates, wines and champagne, scented candles, Steiff bears — the parcel version of a bouquet.
Where the flowers come from
The shop does not publish its buying: it describes its florists as award-winning and continually trained, but names no market, auction or grower. If provenance matters to you, ask when you order.
The shop, the service and what else they do
The premises are more warehouse than boutique — a large unit with room to work, browse in person and park, which suits an operation that has to fill vans as well as serve a counter. Alongside fresh flowers there are potted plants and indoor greenery sold with care instructions, artificial arrangements for places where fresh flowers will not survive, balloons, and the gift shelf that turns a bouquet into a present.
The practical service to know about is the standing contract: a fixed rhythm of deliveries to a reception desk or a restaurant table, arranged once and then simply arriving. That is a different product from a bouquet, and it is what the shop has spent a century getting good at.
When to come and how to get there
Fishlocks sits north of the city centre on the dock side, in the belt of large units between the waterfront and Vauxhall — a five-minute drive from the centre rather than a stroll from it, with its own parking as compensation. If you are collecting something big, that parking is the reason to come here rather than into the centre.
Time it around the pressure points: Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day squeeze every florist in the city, Christmas brings the corporate displays, and wedding season fills the summer diary months in advance. For an ordinary bouquet, the 1pm line is the only clock that matters.
Questions and answers
Can I get flowers delivered today?
Yes, if the order is placed before 1pm. Later orders roll to the next working day.
Do they deliver on Sundays?
Sunday delivery runs in Liverpool and on the Wirral, but the order has to be in by 1pm on Saturday.
Will they deliver to a hospital or the airport?
Yes — Aintree Hospital, John Lennon Airport, city-centre offices and Anfield are named as standard destinations.
Can I collect the order myself?
Yes, click and collect is available with a morning or afternoon slot, and there is parking on site.
Do they do corporate contracts?
That is one of the shop’s main lines: regular flowers for offices, hotels and events, set up as a standing arrangement.
How far ahead should a wedding be booked?
Summer dates go early, so treat the consultation as something to arrange months ahead rather than weeks.
What happens if the address is outside the delivery area?
The order is passed to a partner shop in the relay network, and if the destination cannot be covered at all the shop says it will let you know quickly.
Is there anything besides fresh flowers?
Potted plants with care notes, artificial arrangements, balloons and a gift range that can travel with the bouquet.
